eSports Arena Announce The Smash Masters League, A Global Smash Circuit
eSports Arena revealed more information on their upcoming
Smash Masters League this Sunday. Smash Masters League is a global circuit for
both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, similar to Street
Fighter’s Capcom Pro Tour. The Smash Masters League will consist of two seasons
a year, the first will span from January to June, and the second season will be
August to December. Each season will be comprised of 5 Smash Master events and
about 5 or 6 Legacy events. Legacy
events are tournament series that are already long running and respectable
tournaments that can be added into the circuit. Genesis, Frostbite, and Shine
were specifically mentioned as possible candidates for Legacy events.
The Smash Masters events will be held at 5 locations across
3 continents. Events will be hosted in Santa Ana, Oakland, Europe, Beijing, and
the season’s finals will be held at their location in Las Vegas. The first two
events were announced yesterday over Twitter. The Smash Masters events will
kick off with Battle for Vegas on March 23-25. Their other announced event,
Noods Noods Noods NorCal Edition, will be a one day event on April 7 in
Oakland, CA.
eSports Arena has announced that they will no longer be
working with the 2GG team, but said that the Smash master’s League will have a
similar production value to the 2GG Championship that took place last December.
ESA is also looking to have major pot bonuses to invite top players to come to
the Masters events. Battle for Vegas will have a $25,000 pot bonus for Melee
and a $15,000 pot bonus for Smash 4, and Noods Noods Noods will have a $2,500
pot bonus for each game.
The first trailer for the Smash Masters League was released
during the Smash 4 Frostbite tournament. The video released during the tournament
was an outdated copy, with an incorrect date for Battle for Vegas. An updated
video was released on the official ESA website, but has caused some confusion
and controversy by changing the date for the first event to the weekend of Full
Bloom 4, a tournament that had its dates announced for some time. I’m sure a
solution is being worked on, but as of now there has been no official word on
the double-booking.
The time is now for a new champion to be crowned. Smash Masters League is coming soon.— Esports Arena (@EsportsArena) February 12, 2018
